Anesthesia is the induction of a controlled, brief lossof feeling or consciousness for medical reasons. It can involve any or all ofthe following: Analgesia(pain reduction or avoidance), paralysis (muscle relaxation), amnesia (memoryloss), and unconsciousness. Anesthetizedrefers to a patient who is under the influence of anesthetic medicines.
